New advanced recycling facility is one of the largest in North America
Did you see the news? We recently announced the startup of our new Baytown Advanced Recycling facility, which is one of the largest advanced recycling facilities in North America.
Since pilot operations began in 2021, the facility has already recycled nearly 15 million pounds of plastic waste. We are excited to build on that success. The Baytown operation uses proprietary technology to break down hard-to-recycle plastics – many of which could otherwise wind up in a landfill – and transforms them into raw materials for new products.
But don’t take our word for it. Check out the numbers for yourself:
- Baytown is capable of processing more than 80 MILLION pounds of plastic waste per year.
- By year-end 2026, we plan to increase our global recycling capacity to 1 BILLION pounds per year.
“We’ve proven our proprietary advanced recycling technology at Baytown, and now we’re leveraging our scale and integration to increase production of certified circular plastics to meet growing demand,” said Karen McKee, president of ExxonMobil Product Solutions Company.
Advanced recycling is a proven technology that can help accelerate a circular economy and address the challenge of plastic waste. Our new Baytown facility has a key role to play – and we have more planned.
