Meet the faces of advanced recycling: Matthew McConomy


At ExxonMobil, we pride ourselves with carrying out the technological advancements that help benefit communities and help drive efforts to expand the types of plastics that can be recycled. We couldn’t do that without the skills and support of our world-class employees like Matthew McConomy.

After graduating with his master’s degree in chemical engineering, Matthew landed his dream job at ExxonMobil.

Today, his work as a field engineer centers on helping to develop new systems that could change the way plastics are recycled. By leveraging his background in chemical engineering, Matthew has helped develop new solutions that may impact the industry. He has been fundamental to the Baytown, Texas facility team that has processed nearly 15 million pounds of plastic waste – with plans for much more!

Matthew attributes his role in advanced recycling with inspiring his long-term focus: How can we create best practices here in Baytown that our colleagues elsewhere can leverage at their sites? He has found his passion in helping to develop new systems that could change the way plastics are recycled around the world.
