Meet the faces of advanced recycling: Stephanie Westbrook

ExxonMobil’s employees are the backbone of exciting advancements that help benefit your family and communities, such as helping increase the types of plastics that could be recycled. Our team members, like Stephanie Westbrook, are helping to scale up the recycling of more types of plastics.

Stephanie Westbrook, a technologist serving in the advanced recycling sector describes herself as the “trash collector.” Stephanie is responsible for receiving waste plastics from all over the world and analyzing the ability to process them through ExxonMobil’s advanced recycling technology.

Stephanie spends her day invested in a process called elemental mapping where she prepares every material the team receives for extensive elemental analysis and compiles a rapidly expanding database of more than 700 different plastic waste samples.

From sterile syringes at your doctor’s office, to the dashboard in your car, to the bag that holds the shredded cheese for your baked potato, so many everyday items are made from plastic, but many are not recycled – and Stephanie’s vital work is helping to expand our capabilities to recycle more types of plastic products.
